Parents, carers, and professionals workshops

We are funded by DSG (designated schools grant) and thus our core role is to support staff in education settings to raise standards of support for their autistic pupils.

We are currently not offering drop-in advice sessions. We advise parent/carers to first discuss the specific needs of their child with the setting SENCO and to contact SENDIASS should further impartial advice be needed.

We offer free parent carer workshops, with a focus on supporting autistic children and young people at home and in the community. School staff may attend, with a view to supporting parents and carers. Please refer to our 2024/25 flyer (see resources below) for more information.

Please be aware that due to unprecedented demand for these workshops, we are having to cap numbers attending and turn requests to attend down. Please do not book a place on a workshop unless you intend to take it up. If your circumstances change and you can no longer attend, please email STARS and let us know, so we can offer your place to someone else. Many thanks.

SENDIASS
Leeds SENDIASS

They support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their parents and carers to help with their related concerns or questions.

They do this by providing a free, impartial and confidential service through our website and online resources. Parents, carers, children and young people self-refer to this service by contacting us directly.

SEND board Takeover 2022

This resource has been developed by students from Broomfield South SILC, West SILC, East SILC and the SEND Youth Forum to enable teams and services to understand what qualities are important to young people for workers to have.

Dyslexia

As a school we are dedicated to supporting pupils who may have a specific learning difficulty such as Dyslexia. Although we can't make a diagnosis at school we are able to signpost parents/carers and set up interventions to support pupils. We currently have licences with Lexia and Nessy. Nessy have put together a portfolio of free materials to support understanding. Please ask if you need any further information.
