Ireland Wood Pimary School was one of the first schools to be accredited with this award. It is a quality award that recognises the achievements of the whole school. It helps our pupils to understand how a school works and develops an understanding in the important part they play in their successful learning journeys.
Learning
We endeavour to make our curriculum as interesting and exciting as possible and offer our children a broad range of activities. Individual and class targets are set which help the children achieve their goals. Individual targets are related to a pupil’s personal area for development (and are different to any Literacy/Maths targets they may have). Our children appreciate that everyone is a learner and that learning never stops!
Behaviour
Children take responsibility for their own behaviour and follow our whole school behaviour system ‘Keeping in the Green’. They work as a team to ensure that everyone enjoys school and feels safe. They also help create an environment where effective learning takes place.
Attendance (including punctuality)
The children are aware that coming to school every day and being on time is important. Good attendance and punctuality means good achievement. Attendance rewards are given out at the end of the school year for children with excellent attendance. Year 6 children who have never had a day off from Reception to Year 6 get an Attendance Trophy at the end of the year.
Classroom Management
Children are aware that everyone in our school is responsible for it. Pupils at Ireland Wood are encouraged to take on many roles throughout their time in school e.g. School Council Representative, Play Leader, Reception buddy, Assembly monitors etc. Children are aware of every adult’s role in school and how they help them with their learning. Through assemblies and class discussions, children gain an understanding of where the school gets its money from and how they spend it. This helps them to appreciate what they have and that equipment must be looked after. Children earn £5 vouchers for class awards and they choose how best to spend their vouchers. The school council also holds a budget and they take ideas from classes on how to spend the money.
Induction
We pride ourselves on being a friendly, welcoming school. Each class has its own Induction book which explains all about the class to visitors and new pupils. The Class Induction booklets include lots of information, for example, details about staff who work with them, pupil jobs in the classroom and weekly routines. New staff also have a handbook to welcome them into our school. Please visit the website pages below to get more information about Investors in Pupils at Ireland Wood: |
