It was great to see everyone dressed up in their spots and Pudsey Bear merchandise today. We have had a lovely day learning all about fundraising and we really enjoyed watching Mr Blackburn complete his 'dunk the headteacher' challenge. Thank you for all your donations to Children In Need.
We have been learning about Diwali this week and the children have enjoyed making diyas, rangoli patterns and other related craft activities. We are really impressed with how much the children can talk about the traditions and rituals associated with Diwali.
During our exploring time, children have the opportunity to draw, create, build and engage in imaginative play based on our current topic. Here are some pictures showing you what the children have been doing in the Autumn term.
We have had lots of fun developing our finger strength by taking part in dough disco and pen disco. The children have enjoyed listening to music as they make marks in various ways.
In October we went on an autumn walk in our school environment. Together, we looked for signs of autumn and worked in pairs to collect a range of natural materials. The children collected leaves, conkers, pine cones and twigs. We spoke about all the different thing that we could see, hear, feel and smell. The children learnt the new vocabulary : crunchy, crisp, shiny and rustling.
This term we have begun our reading journey by listening to: environmental sounds on our autumn walk, listening to instrumental sounds in our music lessons, listening to rhyme and alliteration in our autumn poems and listening to voice in our keyworker groups. During our phonics lessons we have worked extremely hard to learn the set 1 sounds. We have been listening to each individual sound, naming words that contain each sound, saying the sound and orally blending and segmenting the sound within a word. The children are now learning how to read these new sounds in VC and CVC words. We are very proud of them all!
1 to 5-This term in maths we have been matching and sorting amounts into groups. We have also been learning how to represent, compare and identify smaller numbers within a larger number. The children have really enjoyed taking part in conceptual subitising games and now know what to look for when comparing various totals. When learning about shape, we have explored pattern, and learnt all about Circles, Triangles and shapes with 4 sides.
In the weeks leading up to Christmas the children enjoyed participating in lots of different activities. They worked hard practising songs for their Crafty Carols performance. For this, children learnt Makaton signs to Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer, We Wish You a Merry Christmas and Jingle Bells. We were very proud of the children's efforts.
Please aim to complete one or two activities each week, over the half term. You can tick off and date the grid as your child achieves/completes each task. Please share photos and videos with the Reception Team, using the Evidence Me platform. Thank you for all your support at home.
Here are some documents that you may find useful as your child begins their learning journey at Ireland Wood Primary School. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact a member of the Reception team.
