The children were fascinated as they observed the chicks hatching from their eggs. They watched carefully and discussed the changes they could see, asking thoughtful questions about what was happening. Through this hands-on experience, the children learned about the life cycle of a chick. They showed curiosity, excitement, and empathy towards the chicks, demonstrating a growing understanding of living things and how they grow and change. The children enjoyed sharing their observations with their peers and developed their communication and understanding of the world through meaningful discussions.
This term in PE, the children explored a variety of dance movements, developing their coordination, balance, and confidence in expressing themselves through movement. They listened carefully to instructions and practised moving in different ways, including stretching, twisting, jumping, and travelling across the space. The children particularly enjoyed creating and performing their own dance inspired by the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar. They used their imagination to represent different parts of the story through movement and worked well with their peers to share ideas. The children performed with enthusiasm and creativity, demonstrating growing confidence and enjoyment in dance.
As part of Health and Safety Week, the children have been learning about healthy eating by making and tasting their own healthy smoothies. They explored a variety of fruits and discussed how these foods help to keep our bodies healthy. The children showed great enthusiasm when preparing and sampling the smoothies, using their senses to describe the taste, smell, and texture. To extend their learning, the children worked on writing their own set of instructions explaining how to make a smoothie. They thought carefully about the sequence of steps and used simple instructional language such as "first," "next," and "finally." This activity supported their understanding of healthy lifestyles while also developing their communication, literacy, and sequencing skills.
Today, the children explored repeated patterns using multicoloured cubes. They worked carefully to select and arrange the cubes, creating patterns such as ABAB and AABB. The children demonstrated good concentration and problem-solving skills as they identified, continued, and explained their patterns. They showed enthusiasm throughout the activity and were proud to share their creations with their peers. This experience supported the development of early mathematical skills, including pattern recognition, sequencing, and critical thinking.
