PHONICS SCREENING

Ahead of the Year 1 phonic screening which will take place in June, we have attached some words for your child to practise at home. These words are a mixture of real and fake (nonsense) words. They have been taken from the government website for phonics screening 2016. To practise the words your child will have to blend the letter sounds. Please encourage your child to practise reading the words as much as possible!

 Topic

Our new topic this half term is: ‘What plants would Little Red Riding Hood see if she walked around Ireland Wood?’

The children will learn all about common plants and understand the difference between evergreen and deciduous trees. We are very excited to visit RHS Harlow Carr on 11th May.

A plant hunt!

To kick start our topic 'What plants would Little Red Riding Hood find around Ireland Wood' Year 1 went on a plant hunt around the school. The children took pictures of their plant hunt using the class ipads. This is what they found....

Trees through the seasons

As part of our topic, we discussed the difference between Deciduous and Evergreen trees. The children enjoyed a collage activity to show the changes of a deciduous tree at Ireland Wood and how it has changed through the seasons.
